ACS ACR1552U-MF – Professional USB-C NFC Reader

ACS ACR1552U-MF USB NFC Reader IV is an advanced contactless smart card reader based on 13.56 MHz technology. It is designed for applications requiring broad contactless card and tag compatibility, high communication speed and additional security features.

The ACR1552U-MF is compliant with USB CCID and PC/SC, allowing interoperability with standard smart card applications. The USB Type-C interface makes it convenient to connect the reader directly to modern computers and other USB-C equipped devices. The reader is USB powered and supports plug-and-play operation.

High-speed NFC communication – up to 848 kbps

One of the key advantages of the ACR1552U-MF is support for communication speeds of up to 848 kbps for ISO 14443 cards. For ISO 15693 cards, communication speeds of up to 26/53 kbps are supported. The built-in antenna provides a reading distance of up to approximately 70 mm, depending on the card or tag type.

Extensive card and technology support

The ACR1552U-MF supports a broad range of contactless technologies, including:

Three NFC operating modes

The ACR1552U-MF provides three NFC operating modes:

• Reader/Writer Mode – reading and writing supported cards and NFC tags,
• Card Emulation Mode – emulation of an NFC card,
• Keyboard Emulation Mode – transmitting data to the computer as standard keyboard input.

Keyboard Emulation can be especially useful when data read from a card or NFC tag needs to be entered directly into an active application without developing a dedicated software integration.

Built-in SAM slot

The reader features one ISO 7816 Class A SAM slot using a standard SIM-sized module. Depending on the application, the SAM can provide additional security mechanisms such as key diversification and mutual authentication.

ACS specifies the SAM functionality as a security enhancement for contactless transactions.

Extended APDU and firmware upgrade

The ACR1552U-MF supports extended APDU up to 64 KB, making it suitable for applications requiring larger data structures to be exchanged between the reader and the card.

The reader also supports USB firmware upgrades, allowing firmware updates without replacing the device.

USB Type-C – convenient connectivity for modern devices

The key feature of the ACR1552U-MF variant is its USB Type-C host interface. It can be connected directly to devices equipped with USB-C ports without requiring a USB Type-A adapter.

The MF model retains all major ACR1552U features, including support for ISO 14443, ISO 15693, NFC, MIFARE® and FeliCa, the SAM slot, extended APDU and three NFC operating modes.
